In 2022, Jaquel Spivey won Leading Actor in a Musical for ''A Strange Loop'' from both the Outer Critics Circle and the Drama Desk.
He triumphed over Myles Frost (''M.J.''), who also was nominated there. Going into Tony night, Spivey was expected to pick up that prize, too.
Unfortunately for Spivey, he had a number of absences during Tony voting, and a number of out-of-town Tony voters might've missed seeing him.
If the Leading Actor race was as tight as expected, that difference might've been enough to swing the Tony win to Frost. |
