Sometimes around here, among all of the brush fires that get started, we lose track of what is the essential issue. I am not trying to lay this on you, btw.

This thread started with a sideways criticism of basically every living actor who has made it to Broadway in the last generation or so, together with a mausoleum of the god-like creatures who came before them and who "never missed a day of work." I find that school of thought pretty offensive.

Our society has progressed since Oklahoma (even if, maybe, the state of Oklahoma has not :-) ). We wear seat belts, dangerous products are removed from the market, unsafe working conditions are prohibited, etc. We have a respect for human life in all its glorious manifestations, and that respect outweighs personal enjoyment. When I was young, people would light up cigarettes backstage. It's hard to even imagine that now.

I have stayed out of the several threads on this subject because I find them so disheartening. I hope some who would condemn a person for protecting what they love might think about what they are saying.
