| Using "wokeness" in this way is just trolling. Creating art that addresses social issues is part of a long, long tradition (in theater and elsewhere), including with the artists you namecheck (all men, it must be noted). Bad writing is bad writing, and criticisms of bad writing are more effective when they don't resort to lazy political tropes that say more about the name-caller than they do about the art being criticized. (I haven't seen Gatsby, so I'm not in any way addressing the merits of your specific criticism.) | |
