Going in to this morning I assumed (that is, if I turned out to be right about my predictions) that Best Musical would be between Hell's Kitchen, Illinoise and Suffs.
But the 4 nominations for Illinoise (with no acting noms) makes me think it's a frontrunner for choreography but not much else...
and with the somewhat weak showing for Suffs (6 nominations, fewer than Water for Elephants, and maybe most tellingly no nomination for Shaina Taub for Best Actress as everyone was predicting - not to mention fewer than Kimberly Akimbo or A Strange Loop) it makes me think there's not quite as much love there for that show as I might have thought.

So with the 12 nominations for The Outsiders - as many as A Chorus Line and A Little Night Music, and more than Les Miserables or Dreamgirls - along with having the leading number of Drama Desk noms for anything on Broadway - it sure seems like there's more passion for that show among industry folk than it initially seemed. Or at least that it's growing on people as they look back on the season.

Anything is possible, and sure Water for Elephants or even Suffs could win the big prize -
but it definitely seems like a horse race between The Outsiders and Hell's Kitchen.

Those are the only two shows that not only don't have any shocking snubs, but that were nominated in basically every category they could have possibly qualified for.
(The Outsiders wasn't nominated for Costumes, and if it had been both shows would be tied with 13 nominees apiece.)
