| Broadly speaking - aren’t the unions and their labor contract demands partly to blame for the soaring costs? Yes, there’s no disputing cost of living in NYC is extremely high. But it is also very high in London - and arguably, it’s even more expensive to live there. Yet putting on an equivalent show in the West End is more reasonable than doing it on Broadway. Relatedly, it’s sad to see how many productions that originated on Broadway have been filmed on stage in London due to the reduced costs there. It’s a shame the costs here have been prohibitive in capturing the original casts do most of those productions (Hamilton of course being an exception). Such a missed opportunity for Broadway. |
